Erdelez and Makri (2020): information encountering (IE) was proposed as the preferred term for serendipity in the context of information acquisition.
Following this, the present work treats studies of serendipity in the information acquisition context as falling under the umbrella term IE. For readability, the term serendipity is used in this sense.
